Activist and public affairs analyst, Onwuka Chimezie, has classified the petition linking activist-lawyer Deji Adeyanju and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to terrorism financing as “laughable”.
According to him, he had gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may soon invite Adeyanju and VDM to probe the allegations. However, he questioned the credibility of the claims and described those behind the petition as unserious.
“There is currently a petition before the EFCC alleging that Deji Adeyanju and VeryDarkMan are financing terrorists responsible for heinous crimes and atrocities in Nigeria,” Chimezie said.
“I also learnt that the EFCC may investigate the duo in the coming days over the allegations. But those who sponsored this petition are jokers of the century.”
Despite acknowledging his well-known disagreements with both public figures, Chimezie maintained that the accusations lacked credibility and failed the test of common sense.
“My disagreements and public clashes with Deji and VDM are no secret. However, alleging that they sponsor terrorism in Nigeria is simply unbelievable,” he stated.
He added that while critics may raise questions about their personal lifestyles or activities, linking them to terrorism financing was a claim too far.
“If you tell me that VDM carries small small periwinkles in Abuja with NGO funds, I won’t argue. If you tell me that Deji on the other hand likes enjoyments with small small periwinkles around, if I argue, let my right leg bend irreparably. But, if you say that they’re sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria, you must be a big joke.” Chimezie said
Chimezie challenged the petitioners to come up with more credible allegations, insisting that the terrorism financing claim lacks substance and appears designed to attract attention rather than establish any wrongdoing.
