A political commentator, Clinton Ehiemere, has commended the Abia State representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board, Hon. Dr. Eruba Dimgba, over the flag-off of the 4.8-kilometre emergency reconstruction of the Umuebulungwu–Obohia Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement made available to HopeAlive Media, Clinton Ehiemere described the project as a significant milestone that would ease transportation challenges and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of residents of the area.
He noted that the road, which has remained in a deplorable condition for years, has posed serious difficulties for farmers, traders, commuters and other road users, adding that the commencement of reconstruction work has renewed hope among the people.
The commentator praised Dimgba for facilitating the project through the NDDC, noting that attracting intervention projects from the commission has become increasingly competitive.
According to him, “At a time when attracting projects through the NDDC has become increasingly challenging, this achievement deserves recognition. It reflects responsive leadership and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of our people.”
While applauding the commissioner, Clinton urged him not to relent in attracting more developmental projects to Ukwa and other parts of Abia State.
He specifically appealed for the rehabilitation of the Umudobia–Obibor–Umuolu Road and the Uzuka–Imo River Road, describing them as critical infrastructure capable of boosting economic activities, agriculture and connectivity within the area.
He also called on Dimgba to ensure the timely completion of the Umuebulungwu–Obohia Road project in line with approved standards, expressing concern over the prevalence of abandoned public projects.
“Our people have witnessed too many abandoned projects over the years, and it is our sincere hope that this project will not suffer the same fate but will be completed for the benefit of both present and future generations,” he said.
Clinton maintained that his interventions as a political commentator have always been guided by objectivity, stressing that public office holders who deliver on their mandates deserve commendation, while those who fall short should receive constructive criticism.
He emphasised that development should not be politicised, adding that leaders who deliver tangible projects should be encouraged to do more in the interest of the people.
He congratulated Dimgba on the road project and expressed optimism that it would mark the beginning of more infrastructural development across Ukwa West and other communities in Abia State.
