Chief Sir Ejikeme C. Alozie-Nwagboso has announced his decision not to contest in the forthcoming election, citing his commitment to the zoning arrangement within Ukwa and Asa.
Alozie-Nwagboso, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, 17th September, 2026 said the decision followed consultations with elders and key stakeholders in the community.
He said the decision was taken in response to inquiries from supporters and stakeholders who had questioned why his name was not on the ballot for the upcoming election.
According to him, although every citizen has the constitutional right to seek elective office, communal peace and stability require respect for agreed principles of rotational leadership.
“Leadership requires difficult decisions. After careful consultation with elders and key stakeholders, I have chosen not to contest in this election cycle out of respect for our Ukwa and Asa zoning principled agreement,” he said.
Alozie-Nwagboso urged his supporters not to interpret his decision as the end of his political journey, stressing that leadership goes beyond occupying an elective position.
He said he remained committed to the development of Ukwa and would continue to contribute to the emergence and mentoring of future leaders.
“Our journey is far from over. True leadership extends beyond holding office. As we look ahead, we remain committed to Ukwa’s progress, whether that means mentoring upcoming leaders or answering the call to serve when the time is right,” he added.
The political stakeholder also called on the people of Ukwa to remain peaceful and participate constructively in the forthcoming elections.
He thanked his supporters for their confidence and continued calls for him to serve, assuring them that his commitment to the community remained unwavering.
The statement was signed by Alozie-Nwagboso, who described himself with the titles “Ebube Agu Na Ohambelem” and “Ugo Ebe N’Aja Na Etiti Ozaa.”
