The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 Abia State election, Kelechi Anosike, has unveiled an ambitious welfare-driven agenda, promising to clear outstanding promotion arrears owed to civil servants, implement a ₦90,000 minimum wage, invest massively in agriculture, and ensure that no resident of the state goes to bed hungry if elected governor.

Anosike made the pledges during his homecoming and reception following his emergence as the PDP governorship flag bearer at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia.

Addressing party faithful, supporters and journalists, he expressed gratitude to delegates and stakeholders for entrusting him with the party’s ticket, assuring them that their confidence would be rewarded with purposeful leadership.

“I thank our delegates for giving me the mandate to fly the PDP flag. I will not betray the confidence reposed in me. Together, we shall rebuild Abia and restore the hope and confidence of our people,” he said.

Declaring that the welfare of Abians would be the cornerstone of his administration, Anosike said workers deserve fair treatment and pledged to offset all outstanding promotion arrears owed to civil servants.

“A labourer deserves his wages. I am aware that Abia workers are owed promotion arrears, and those arrears will be paid when I assume office. We will also reform the civil service to make it more efficient, productive and responsive,” he stated.

The PDP standard-bearer further promised to implement a ₦90,000 minimum wage as part of a broader package of people-oriented policies aimed at improving the living conditions of workers and residents across the state.

On food security, Anosike said agriculture would receive unprecedented attention under his administration, stressing that increased investment in farming would create employment opportunities, boost food production and reduce poverty.

“We will make agriculture a major pillar of our economy. By investing heavily in the sector, we will create jobs, improve food production and ensure that no Abian goes to bed hungry,” he declared.

He also pledged to harness innovation and technology to expand employment opportunities for young people, noting that the digital economy offers limitless possibilities.

“Our youths can live in Abia and work remotely for companies across the world, earning in foreign currencies. Governance must embrace innovation, and human capital development will be one of our highest priorities,” Anosike said.

As part of his youth development agenda, he promised to establish modern sports facilities across the state to discover and nurture talented athletes, describing sports as a strategic avenue for youth empowerment and economic growth.

To cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal, the PDP candidate said his administration would introduce targeted social welfare programmes to support vulnerable residents, adding that government would shoulder a significant portion of the economic burden through strategic interventions.

Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Anosike maintained that the PDP remains the strongest and best-organised political party in Abia State.

“The PDP has rediscovered its strength. Our structures are active in every polling unit across the state, our membership continues to grow, and we are fully prepared to reclaim Government House in 2027,” he declared.

Speaking at the event, the Abia State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, described Anosike as a seasoned politician with the experience, competence and leadership capacity to lead the party to victory.

He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and expand the party’s membership across the state, insisting that unity and effective mobilisation would be critical to the PDP’s success at the polls.

Similarly, the party’s National Auditor and member of the National Working Committee (NWC), Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, said Anosike emerged as the party’s candidate because of his proven capacity, competence and leadership qualities.

He called on party faithful to remain united and sustain mobilisation efforts to ensure the PDP reclaims power in Abia State in 2027.

Also speaking, the Abia State PDP Youth Leader, Comrade Ugwumba Adiele, pledged the total support of the party’s youth wing for Anosike’s governorship ambition.

“The youths of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State are solidly behind your candidature. We will mobilise across the state and work tirelessly to ensure your victory in 2027,” he said.

The event was attended by prominent party leaders, including Sir Tony Ezebuiro, Empire Kanu, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, members of the State Working Committee (SWC), party stakeholders and supporters from across the state.
