The Asa Development Union (ADU) an apex socio-cultural in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State has thrown its weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency, Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu, by submitting a comprehensive profile of his leadership credentials and achievements to the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.

In a letter dated June 30, 2026, and signed by the President-General of the union, Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju, alongside Secretary-General Sir Boniface U. Nwaigwe and Chairman of the Asa Think Tank Group, Elder Ezedinachi Kanu, the union described Nwogu as “a major asset” to the APC, whose experience, grassroots appeal, and leadership record would significantly boost the party’s chances in the forthcoming general elections.

The group explained that the profile submission was intended to provide the APC leadership with verifiable information about Nwogu’s background while countering what it described as “propaganda and unfounded allegations” allegedly being circulated by aggrieved aspirants who failed to secure the party’s ticket.

According to the union, Barr. Nwogu’s extensive public service record spans more than three decades, during which he held several strategic positions at the community, local government, state, and federal levels.

Among the positions highlighted were Chairman of the Ezengedeulo Village Community Youths Association, President of the Owaza Youth Development Association, Chairman of the Niger Delta Youth Movement, Deputy Chairman and later Transition Committee Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Chairman of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Board Member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Commissioner for Environment in Abia State, Political Leader of Ukwa West, and currently Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for Ukwa Federal Constituency.

The ADU also outlined what it described as landmark achievements recorded by Nwogu in the various offices he occupied.

As a youth leader, the union credited him with spearheading the construction of a 30-room guest house, establishing a skills acquisition centre, facilitating scholarships for indigent students, attracting road infrastructure, and securing vocational training opportunities for youths.

During his tenure as President of the Owaza Youth Development Association, the union said he facilitated employment opportunities with oil companies, attracted the first streetlights to Owaza and Umudobia communities, upgraded the Owaza Community Health Centre to a Cottage Hospital, and played a significant role in securing Abia State’s recognition as an oil-producing state while advocating increased representation in the NDDC.

The letter further stated that as Transition Committee Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Nwogu facilitated the employment of more than 400 indigenes into the local government system, paid bursaries to students, reconstructed administrative buildings, rehabilitated water schemes, and improved rural roads across the council.

His tenure as Chairman of ASOPADEC was described as one marked by large-scale infrastructural and human capital development. According to the union, he supervised the execution of more than 300 projects, including roads, schools, health centres, markets, town halls, water schemes, electrification projects, and transformer installations.

The union also credited him with sponsoring hundreds of students for WAEC and NECO examinations, providing monthly stipends to over 1,000 indigent beneficiaries, facilitating skills acquisition programmes, sponsoring overseas scholarships to India, supporting professional education for students in Abia State, and creating employment opportunities for over 400 people through ASOPADEC.

Similarly, his service as Abia State representative on the NDDC Board was said to have attracted numerous road projects, transformer installations, and road rehabilitation initiatives across Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Describing Nwogu as a respected political leader and philanthropist, the Asa Development Union maintained that his widespread acceptance across the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency would translate into electoral victory for the APC.

The union therefore appealed to the APC National Working Committee to remain committed to its decision to uphold Nwogu’s candidature and disregard petitions seeking to overturn his nomination.

Reaffirming its loyalty to the ruling party, the Asa Development Union pledged its unwavering support for the APC and all its candidates, while commending the party leadership for what it described as its commitment to justice, equity, and fairness in the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency.
