The ultimatum was given to draw the government’s attention to the lingering and unresolved issues affecting the university system and the welfare of academic staff nationwide. These include:
1. Conclusion and signing of the renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement.
2. Release of the withheld three-and-a-half months’ salaries of members.
3. Sustainable funding and revitalisation of public universities.
4. Payment of outstanding 25–35% salary arrears and promotion arrears.
5. Release of withheld third-party deductions, including union check-off dues and cooperative funds.
At the ASUU-ABSU Branch, we wish to restate that our own local issues form part of the overall demands being pressed at the national level. These include:
1. Non-payment of textbook monies to our members.
2. Scattered and irregular mode of salary payment, leading to omission of salaries for some members.
3. Non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
4. Non-implementation of the 2024 approved salary structure.
5. notional promotions and arrears
Comrades, the Government has failed to meet our demands, the union has declared a two-week warning strike effective from 12.01am on Monday 13th October 2025
Principal Officers (POs) of our Union met with government officials yesterday and today. As a result, Congress is hereby called to hold on Tuesday, 14th October 2025, at Jupeb for a briefing and official declaration of the strike.
All members are therefore directed to remain vigilant, united, and fully prepared to comply with the directive of the National Executive Council. The strike is total and comprehensive.
