Engineer Godswill Chiemena Dimgba, an indigene of Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has graduated from Coventry University, England, United Kingdom, with a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas (Petroleum), adding another remarkable achievement to his academic career.
Engr. Dimgba, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt in 2016 with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division), described the latest accomplishment as the fulfilment of a long-held academic ambition.
Speaking with HopeAlive Media, he attributed his success to the support of the Abia State representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Eruba Dimgba, whose recommendation earned him a place among beneficiaries of the 2024/2025 NDDC Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme.
According to him, the scholarship came after years of unsuccessful applications, describing the breakthrough as an act of divine favour.
“Dr. Eruba Dimgba and I had never met before. Despite several efforts to see him in person, I couldn’t. Yet, God used him to perfect my 2025 application after several failed attempts. His action has shown that he believes in fairness, unity of purpose, and the development of young people rather than favoritism,” he said.
Engr. Dimgba commended Dr. Eruba Dimgba for creating opportunities for deserving youths irrespective of personal relationships, describing him as “God-sent” and expressing heartfelt appreciation for the role he played in making his academic dream a reality.
He also called on political leaders in Ukwa to embrace transparency, fairness, and people-centred leadership, stressing that public office should be used to promote the growth and development of the people.
“I encourage other leaders to emulate Dr. Eruba Dimgba’s example by prioritising merit and creating opportunities for young people to succeed,” he added.
Describing his graduation as a landmark achievement, Engr. Dimgba said he is the first person from the Owaza Ancient Kingdom to obtain a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas (Petroleum) from Coventry University.
He expressed gratitude to God for His guidance and faithfulness throughout his academic journey. He also thanked his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ogbuji Dimgba, his wife, Mrs. Kate Chiemena Dimgba, his siblings, the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and everyone who supported and encouraged him during his studies in the United Kingdom.
