The people of Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State once again hosted a high-powered event on 26 December 2026 at Obehie Central School, Obehie Asa.
Delivering his speech, the Chairman of the 2025 Asa-Day Planning Committee, Engr Nwoke Adinigwe Ugochukwu, thanked the people for finding him fit to organise the epoch-making event and for the immense support gathered, which saw its success. “I am delighted to be the Chairman of the 2025 Asa-Day Planning Committee. Asa is united, and we shall continue to speak to people and chart a way forward for greatness.”
The event drew a distinguished gathering of Asa’s finest minds, political leaders, academics, captains of industry, government appointees, and traditional rulers, once again reflecting the purpose and excellence of the Asa Development Union.
Addressing the audience, the Executive Chairman, Hon Dike Briggs Nwankwo, called for unity, love, and collective responsibility in building a stronger Asa. In a warm display of people-oriented leadership, he mingled freely with the crowd and joined in the cultural dances, reinforcing the bond between leadership and the people. Asa Day remains a cherished cultural heritage of Nde Asa, and the Mayor’s presence further affirmed steady, inclusive leadership in Ukwa West.
In his speech, Asa Development Union President, Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolom Nwuju, appreciated members seeking further support to harness untapped potential and appreciated the 2025 Asa-Day Planning Committee and others whose efforts made a mark. “As a people pursuing love and unity is important. We must clearly pursue the vision. I want to assure Ndi Asa that we will harness all the recommendations from the Asa Think Tank Committee in the 2027 political calculations.”
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewal, Hon Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, cited the decision of the political elites. “The Asa people have decided that the House of Representatives seat will return to Ukwa West in 2027. No saboteur will survive it.”
The colourful event was well attended by representatives of the thirty villages, dancing groups, traditional leaders, clergymen, merchants, political leaders, women leaders, and various political parties.
Highlights of the event were a book presentation of “Who is Who in Asa”, written by Nelson Nelvica Obioma; a song by various groups and the community; and a stage performance by Ten Penny Vibes, an Asa Afrobeat star.
