The Labour Party’s candidate for Ukwa West State Constituency, Surveyor Joshua Ahukanna, has pledged to serve only a single four-year term if elected, citing his commitment to the principles of equity, zoning, and the position of the Asa Development Union on the Charter of Equity.
Ahukanna made the declaration during an enlarged Labour Party stakeholders’ meeting held at the country home of Engr. Adinigwe Nwoke, the party’s candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, in Owaza, Asa Clan.
Addressing party faithful and stakeholders, Ahukanna emphasized that his decision to seek public office was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of the Asa people and that he had no intention of remaining in office beyond a single term.
“I’ve been living my life outside politics, and I will not hesitate to step down as soon as four years elapse,” he stated.
The meeting, hosted by Engr. Nwoke brought together key Labour Party leaders and stakeholders from across Ukwa West to discuss party internal issues, strengthening grassroots mobilization, and aligning political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ahukanna’s declaration reportedly received widespread endorsement from party leaders and stakeholders present, who described the pledge as a demonstration of respect for the Asa Development Union’s zoning arrangement and a commitment to fairness, inclusion, and political balance within the local government.
Among those in attendance were the Executive Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Hon. Dike Briggs Nwankwo; the Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewal, Hon. Philemon Asonye; the member representing Ukwa West State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Adiele; former Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ralph Egbu; Ukwa West Abia Arise Coordinator, Hon. Ndukauba Adiele; Hon. Dr. Chike Okpokiri; Hon. Ibe Ememe; and Dr. Lucky Eleogu, among other party stakeholders.
Political observers at the gathering noted that the one-term pledge could further strengthen confidence among stakeholders who have consistently advocated adherence to the Charter of Equity and rotational leadership within the constituency.
The development is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Labour Party in Ukwa West to consolidate support and foster unity as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
