Justice Muhammad Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the remand of presidential aspirant and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings in his case.
The court gave the order on Monday after Sowore appeared before the court and through his new counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olumide Fusika, filed an application seeking to set aside an earlier ruling that revoked his bail.
At the previous adjourned sitting, Sowore was absent from court, prompting the prosecution to apply for the revocation of his bail on allegations of delay tactics and failure to comply with court proceedings. However, during Monday’s session, Justice Muhammad Umar ordered his remand pending the determination of the application challenging both the bail revocation and the bench warrant earlier issued against him.
The court also dismissed Sowore’s application requesting the judge’s recusal from the matter over allegations of bias.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to June 24 for hearing on the application.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services is prosecuting Sowore over allegations that he published false claims against Bola Ahmed Tinubu through posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.
