The Asa Liberation Movement in their grassroots sensitisation meeting held at Umuekechi Asa on the 17th day of July 2025, declared without mincing words that the Ipu Political Ward shall produce the next House of Assembly member to represent the good people of Ukwa West LGA in the Abia House Assembly in the 2027 general election.
The press release made by the ALM Spokesperson, Mr Charles Ehiemere, stated that ALM, as a non-socio-political group, is committed to holding the Ukwa political leaders accountable to deliver dividends of democracy to the Ukwa West people, and to respect the zoning formula in the distribution of all elective positions in the LGA.

“ASA LIBERATION MOVEMENT EMBARKS ON GRASSROOTS SENSITIZATION AHEAD OF THE 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS”
As the permutation for the forthcoming 2027 general elections heightens with a tsunami of defections, alignments, realignments of political structures and ellipsis of coalition of opposition political parties, Asa Liberation Movement conveyed a crucial sensitization meeting at Umuekechi Town Hall, Asa North on the 17th of July, 2025 with a strong call for resilience, unity and strategic political engagement.
Speaking at the meeting, the President of ALM, Hon Emeka Adiele, introduced ALM’s objectives to the new entrants, describing ALM as a powerful voice against political subterfuge, marginalisation and maladministration.
Also speaking, Brave Emeziem Nwoke, who decried the age-long disunity amongst the leaders of Asa, stressed the need for collective purpose and integrity in political dealings. He bemoaned the insensitivity of our people to the seemingly Punic faith which has beclouded the sensibilities of our elder statesmen, and, therefore, urged them to retrace their steps to a righteous sense of equipoise and be committed to the ongoing struggle for the development of Asa and Ukwa in general adding that our rights and privileges as the highest Oil Producing Local Govt are priceless.
Contributing, Hon Austin Ehiemere, the Labour Party Chairman of Ukwa West, encouraged the women to always preach the gospel of the Asa Liberation Movement to their fellow women, husbands and children who are of voting age and start early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eze Ikuku condemned the celebration of basic projects like solar lights and reconstruction of markets in an oil-producing Local government, stressing that Ukwa youths deserve lucrative government jobs rather than handouts.
Elder Chidi Aṅuriegbe criticised the past leaders who abandoned the Umuekechi-Uratta road project, went to Rivers State, recorded a well-constructed road, took the photo ops to AIT and held a press conference with claims that the Umuekechi-Uratta road project had been completed. He queried to know if ALM can hold the current leaders accountable in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.
Mrs Ngọzi Michael, a widow and evangelist, who spoke on behalf of the women, called for resilience and active participation of women in ALM’s programmes by taking up leadership roles and solicited a better communication channel via SMS for offline members.
Emeka Vincent applauded the leadership of ALM for their boldness, vision and dedication to pursuing the development of Asa and Ukwa in general.
During deliberations, a crucial question was raised by Comr John Chidozie regarding the Zone that would represent Ukwa West in the Abia State House of Assembly. In response, Elder Chigozirim Ehiriodo, who applauded the leadership of the Asa Liberation Movement for their political foresight and clarity, affirmed that it is the legitimate turn of Ipu Zone to produce the next Assembly member, emphasising that the position is not up for grabs beyond Ipu, as equity and rotation of Asa elected political offices must be respected.
On this note, the President, Hon Emeka Adiele, issued a strong caution to those nursing plans to trade the seat for their selfish political gains. He made it clear that ALM will resist, with any political tool available, any attempt to undermine the zoning arrangement or betray the collective interest of the Ipu Zone. This stance reaffirms ALM’s commitment to justice, equity and credible representation as 2027 approaches.
In the heat of the deliberations, the leadership of the Asa Liberation Movement took a decisive step towards strengthening its grassroots mobilisation by inaugurating Hon Vincent Emeka and Prophet Elijah Adiele as coordinators of Ọmụma Uzor and Umuiku Isi Asaa, respectively.
Their appointments reflect ALM’s commitment to inclusive leadership and effective community coordination as it intensifies efforts towards the political awakening and development of Ukwa.
With clear resolutions, renewed zeal and a unified front, the Asa Liberation Movement has set the tone for purposeful engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, reaffirming that the journey to a liberated and prosperous Asa and Ukwa in general has truly begun.
