In a widely circulated video, Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti, representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, expressed her frustration over the Comptroller General of Customs seizing her international passport.
She stated that Senate President Godswill Akpabio instructed the Customs to confiscate her passport at the airport, preventing her from travelling.
After completing her second year in office, she took a week off, only to find her passport being withheld again. This wasn’t the first time; her passport was previously seized without a clear cause. She revealed that the officer in charge told her that the Senate President ordered her passport to be withheld because she reportedly sneers at the country and grants interviews to international media. ” I have committed no offence. Last time, I was told that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabi, instructed them to withhold my passport because they claimed I was disrespecting the country in my international interviews,” she said.
“I am aware of two court cases against me, which President Tinubu has directed the Attorney General to dismiss. The President also asked the Senate President to cancel all my cases, alleging political witch-hunting. I have attended all my court hearings, and there is no court order against me. I am not a flight risk or a threat to my country. So, why am I being treated like a criminal” She cries out.
