The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) announces that it has received approval from the Minister of Health to implement a new system for the posting of nursing interns (newly graduated nurses) for their internship.
In a memo issued by the Council Registrar, Nadagi Alhassan, disclosed that, before now, each hospital or nursing school might have handled internship placements in its own way, stating that there will be a centralised system managed by the Nursing Council for posting all nurse interns across Nigeria.
He said the essence of the centralised posting is to ensure a fair, transparent, and organised process where every newly qualified nurse will go through the same standardised process for placement in public hospitals.
“The Council will later release more information on how to apply, when to apply, and other requirements for the internship placement.”
The Council thanks everyone for supporting and helping to maintain high standards in nursing education and practice in Nigeria. He said.
