Members of the New Ukwa Progressive Initiative (NUPI) on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, convened at Hotel Presidential Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for a high-level strategic meeting aimed at finalising plans for the Association’s first anniversary celebration. Deliberations were also centered on key political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Ukwa Federal Constituency and Abia South Senatorial District.
The meeting brought together members of the National Executive Council, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders, who reviewed the Association’s achievements over the past year and charted a clear course for its future engagements.
Addressing the gathering, the President of NUPI, Dr. Franklin Akanwa, expressed appreciation to members for their commitment and consistent support towards the growth of the Organisation. He noted that the meeting was convened to evaluate the Association’s activities since its inauguration, assess its milestones, fine-tune preparations for its maiden anniversary celebration and discuss the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Akanwa reiterated that NUPI was established as a non-partisan advocacy platform committed to promoting good governance, accountability, transparency, capacity building, community development, and the socio-economic advancement of the Ukwa people. He added that the organisation also serves as a unifying platform for professionals, intellectuals, business leaders, and other stakeholders from Ukwa East and Ukwa West Local Government Areas to contribute meaningfully to the development of the federal constituency.
He further stated that NUPI remains committed to championing policies and programmes that will foster sustainable development, empower young people, encourage civic participation, and provide constructive solutions to issues affecting the Ukwa nation.
Among the major issues deliberated upon during the meeting were the programme of activities for the first anniversary celebration, the proposed unveiling of NUPI’s Two-Year Development Blueprint, strategies for expanding the Association’s developmental initiatives, and the political outlook for the 2027 elections, particularly the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Abia South Senatorial elections.
Following extensive deliberations, members unanimously commended the leadership for remaining steadfast in pursuing the vision and objectives upon which NUPI was founded. They reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership and pledged their continued support towards ensuring a successful and impactful first anniversary celebration.
The meeting also resolved that members of the Association should continue to play active and constructive roles in shaping the political future of Ukwa by lending their voices to issues of governance, accountability, and quality representation ahead of the 2027 general elections. Members stressed the importance of issue-based political engagement and encouraged the people of Ukwa to prioritise competence, integrity, and visionary leadership in choosing their representatives.
The meeting ended with renewed optimism and a collective commitment to strengthening NUPI as a credible platform for advocacy, unity, and sustainable development in Ukwa Federal Constituency and the wider Abia South Senatorial District.
